One thing is certain in the Caribbean Twenty20 League: runs, runs, and more runs. Since its inception in 2013, the Caribbean Premier League has witnessed a lot of power hitting.

Chris Gayle, Lendl Simmons, Colin Munro, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, and Ewin Lewis have all demonstrated their batting prowess and enjoyment of hitting boundaries.

The highest run-getters in CPL history

Lendl Simmons has the most runs scored in the CPL with 2436. Simmons has now played 82 games and has a strike rate of 120.41 at the plate. Chris Gayle (2354 runs) and Andre Fletcher are his closest rivals (2081 runs).

In the history of the CPL, eight teams have scored 400 runs in a single match, with four of them occurring this year. In the 2018 season, three such occurrences occurred within eight days of each other.

The 493 runs scored in a match between the Jamaica Tallawahs (JT) and the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in 2019 is the highest in the CPL. TKR batted first and amassed 267 runs for the loss of only two wickets. Despite losing 5 wickets, the Tallawahs could only manage 226 in reply. In the Caribbean T20 event, TKR’s 267/2 is also the greatest team score in an innings.

Colin Munro set the record for most runs scored in a single CPL season in 2018. In 13 matches, he scored 567 runs. During the season, he scored six half-centuries. Brandon King has the highest individual score in the CPL. In 2019, he scored 132 runs in 72 balls for the Guyana Amazon Warriors against the Barbados Tridents. Dwayne Smith and Chris Gayle have had four tons in the CPL, the most of anyone.

The Caribbean Premier League’s All-Time Highest Scores

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is back and ready to entertain us with some fantastic cricket matches. Cricket has become a batsman’s game in recent years, and bowlers must hope for a better day due to the way batsmen score runs at a faster rate. The game’s shortest format may be quite punishing for bowlers. Batsmen find a way to smash bowlers for boundaries on every single delivery, regardless of the ball they bowl or the field they set.

Throughout the history of the CPL, there have been multiple instances where teams have utterly destroyed bowling lineups in order to rack up big numbers on the scoreboard.

So, let’s take a look at the top ten biggest scores that fully lit up the Caribbean stadiums.

The CPL’s Top 5 Highest Scores

5) The Jamaica Tallawahs defeated the Trinbago Knight Riders 225-6. (2018)

On August 10, 2018, one of the game’s most powerful men demonstrated why he is so lethal on the cricket field to the rest of the world. Andre Russell single-handedly took the match away from the Trinbago Knight Riders after destroying a bowling attack that included Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, and Shannon Gabriel, all of whom are world-class bowlers. The Tallawahs, who were chasing 224, did not get off to a good start, losing five of their batsmen in the first 50 runs of their innings. Everyone felt the team’s match was done, but Russell had other ideas. Russell and Kennar Lewis put up a 161-run partnership to help his team reach the winning mark. That particular score became the highest total in CPL history at the time. Russell blasted six fours and 13 sixes in an unbroken 121-run innings off just 49 deliveries. Lewis, on the other hand, fulfilled the role of an anchor, scoring 51 off 35 balls with four fours and two sixes. Russell took three wickets in addition to getting a lot of runs.

4) Barbados Tridents vs St. Lucia Zouks 226/6 (2018)

St. Lucia Zouks (St. Lucia Stars from 2016-2018) performed the unfathomable by beating the record for the highest total in CPL history just seven days after Tallawah’s historic effort. After electing to bat first, Zouks got off to a flying start, with opening batsman Andre Fletcher slamming boundaries from the first delivery. David Warner, on the other hand, was dismissed before even getting a chance to bat.

The Zouks’ woes were compounded when Rahkeem Cornwall and Lendl Simmons both went down in consecutive deliveries. When the team appeared to be on the verge of collapse, West Indies’ most prolific batsman assumed responsibility for guiding his team to a decent score.

Kieron Pollard and Fletcher had an incredible 148-run partnership, putting the team over the 200-run barrier. In the process, Pollard hammered a century and Fletcher bowled an incredible 80 off just 52 balls, making it one of the finest innings of his career. In their quota of 20 overs, Zouks scored a whopping 226 runs, the biggest total in the tournament’s history.

The game was won by Zouks by 38 runs.

3) St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs. #3 Jamaica Tallawahs 241/4 (2019)

Tallawahs have always been a tough team to beat in the CPL. Tallawahs hitters Chris Gayle, Glenn Phillips, Rovman Powell, and Andre Russell have always had the firepower in their batting lineup to put up massive totals, and they did just that on September 11, 2019.

Gayle led off the game for his squad by doing what he does best: lighting the field on fire. From the start, the “Universe Boss” shattered barriers and demonstrated why bowlers are afraid to face him. To finish his century and lead his team to a winning score, the Jamaican hit ten big sixes, and seven fours. Chadwick Walton, on the other hand, was the more aggressive member of their combination, scoring 73 runs at a strike rate of nearly 203. With the exception of Alzarri Joseph, no Patriots bowler had an economy rate of less than 11.

Tallawahs made the top total in the Caribbean Premier League for the second time.

2) Jamaica Tallawahs vs St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots 242/6 (2019)

When everyone thought the Tallawahs had made history by scoring 241 runs in 20 overs, the Patriots of St. Kitts and Nevis came out with one goal in mind: “to rewrite history.” Patriots were able to chase down 241 with 7 balls to spare thanks to outstanding efforts from their top four players.

The Patriots won by four wickets.

  1. The Trinbago Knight Riders defeated the Jamaica Tallawahs 267/2.

Trinbago Knight Riders hold the record for the greatest total in the Caribbean Premier League’s history. TKR smashed all previous records with ease while batting first against the Tallawahs, posting a massive total of 267 on the board. Lendl Simmons (86 off 42 balls) and Colin Munro (96 off 50 balls) went head-to-head with the bowlers and hammered boundaries all over the park.

Kieron Pollard, too, had a fantastic cameo, scoring 45 runs off just 17 deliveries.
