An overview of CPL’s Emerging Players
The Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) will once again collaborate with Cricket West Indies (CWI) to guarantee that the top young players from throughout the region are included in CPL squads and that these bright youngsters are given a game time during the tournament.
CWI has published a list of 20 players, which includes five of the youngsters that shone for West Indies at the recent ICC Under 19 World Cup in South Africa. Kimani Melius, Jayden Seales, Ashmead Nedd, Nyeem Young, and Kirk McKenzie are all in the running to demonstrate what they’re made of at the CPL.

The seven players on the list who played in the CPL last year in these developmental spots are Amir Jangoo (Trinbago Knight Riders), Leniko Boucher (Barbados Tridents), Jeavor Royal, Roland Cato (St Lucia Zouks), Dominic Drakes (St Kitts & Nevis Patriots), Shamar Springer (Jamaica Tallawahs), and Keagan Simmons (Jamaica Tallawahs) (Guyana Amazon Warriors). The teams can choose to keep these players or pick or sign someone else from the list.
Two positions in each team will be reserved for these individuals, ensuring that the CPL will feature at least 12 West Indies qualifying players under the age of 23.

Throughout the competition, each team must field an emerging player at least five times, with either one player making five appearances or both players making five appearances. This means they will not only get the opportunity to train with the top players and coaches from the Caribbean and around the world, but they will also have the opportunity to participate in the CPL.
“The CPL takes its mandate of providing meaningful opportunities for the next generation of West Indian cricketers very seriously,” said Michael Hall, Tournament Operations Director for the CPL. “We are happy to have collaborated with Cricket West Indies on the Emerging Players initiative once again.” It is now up to the players to take advantage of the situation.”
“I am happy that the Emerging Player initiative will continue into its second season,” said Jimmy Adams, CWI Director of Cricket. “It allows us to once again select our best young talent and equip them with a program that will speed their step up to the professional game.”
“Another brilliant set of young regional cricketers has been picked, from which 12 players will be drafted into the CPL, two per franchise.” Prior to leaving for the event, this group will have the opportunity to attend a specific high-performance camp in Antigua. Later this year, the Super 50 Cup will be used once again by the program to provide a competitive One-Day environment for the top young regional talent who would not otherwise have an opportunity under the franchise structure. I appreciate the CPL and the Franchise owners’ ongoing support in helping us develop our youthful potential.”
