The team of the tournament
- Lewis, Evin (St Kitts and Nevis Patriots)
SR 164.7 || Runs 420 || Avg 52.5
In CPL, no one has scored more runs or hit more sixes than Evin Lewis. So far this season, the left-hander has put on a commanding performance, leading St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to the championship game. He will enter the final having scored 179 runs without being dismissed in his past two innings, including an undefeated 77 in the semi-final against the Trinbago Knight Riders. Lewis has hit 38 sixes in total this event, 13 more than the second-best player.
- Lewis, Kennar (Jamaica Tallawahs)
262 runs || 26.2 average || SR 164.77
In this season of the CPL, Kennar Lewis scored more than half of his T20 runs. Even though his bat did not consistently provide large runs at the top of the order, he provided the Jamaica Tallawahs with the ideal base with some blazing performances. Among the top 10 run scorers this season, no one has scored more runs than Kennar. In a season that ended in disappointment, he was easily Tallawahs’ finest player.
- Chase, Roston (Saint Lucia Kings)
SR 149.81 || Runs 403 || Avg 50.37 || Wickets 9
Roston Chase was easily CPL surprise package. His improvement was so remarkable that he was called up to the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup despite never having played an international game in this format. Chase led the run charts for most of the tournament, eventually scoring over 400 runs with a fantastic average and strike rate. He was also successful with the ball, taking nine wickets at an economy rate of just 7.
- Nicholas Pooran (Amazon Warriors of Guyana) (Wicketkeeper)
263 runs || 32.87 average || SR 163.35
The dashing keeper-batsman regained some of his former touch in this edition, which will give him a lot of confidence to turn his fortunes around in the IPL next week as well. Pooran always supplied impetus in the middle order for his team, but he was never able to kick on and produce a large score until his undefeated 75 against the Jamaica Tallawahs. In the semi-final, the Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper had an ominous start to his innings, racing to 26 off only 13 balls, but his dismissal caused a collapse, and his team was knocked out.
5) Trinbago Knight Riders’ Kieron Pollard (Captain)
261 runs || 37.28 average || SR 158.18
With his purple patch continuing into the tournament, Kieron Pollard continued to dazzle at the plate. On more than one occasion, the Trinbago Knight Riders captain assumed the role of finisher, collecting more than 20 sixes. He went off in a lofty chase in the semi-final after smashing a 20-ball 50 in the previous league game, hitting three sixes, but his dismissal at a vital stage halted TKR’s incredible run in the competition.
6) David Tim (Saint Lucia Kings)
272 runs || 38.85 average || SR 148.63
Tim David did an outstanding job this season, breaking into the top five run-scorers despite batting at 6 on most occasions. He sparked a lot of buzz after signing an IPL deal lately, and he proved why by playing a key role in Saint Lucia Kings’ march to the final. David, who has a habit of putting in outstanding performances as a finisher, did not disappoint in the semi-final, scoring an undefeated 38 off just 17 balls, which proved to be the difference in the end, with TKR falling short by just 21 runs.
7) Narine, Sunil (Trinbago Knight Riders)
ER 4.37 || Wickets 12 || Avg 14.58
Sunil Narine may not have made the World Cup squad, but he certainly did his part for the defending champions in the CPL. The veteran finished the event with an incredible economy rate of 4.37, probably the best in the tournament. Narine concluded with figures of 1/12 in the semi-final against an opponent who scored almost 200 points. With the bat, he made fair contributions while hitting in various places, but he was not at his most aggressive.
8) Smith, Odean (Guyana Amazon Warriors)
ER 7.54 || Wickets 18 || Avg 14.88
Odean Smith lit up the CPL with some eye-catching displays that will almost certainly push him back into the national team. Smith made effective use of his long handle, unleashing some big strokes down the order and forming a deadly bowling combo with Romario Shepherd. Both pacers took 18 wickets between them and were instrumental in Guyana Amazon Warriors’ semi-final appearance.
9) Shepherd, Romario (Guyana Amazon Warriors)
ER 7.69 || Wickets 18 || Avg 14.11
Romario Shepherd, who can also land some lusty blows later in the order, was another player who impressed this season. Out of the nine games he participated in, he picked up three wickets on five occasions. It’s no surprise Guyana fell in the semi-final when he had a lackluster performance. Shepherd had one of the best all-around performances in T20 cricket this season, rescuing his side from 75/7 with a magnificent 72* off 31 balls before returning to take three wickets with the ball.
10) Hosein, Akeal (Trinbago Knight Riders)
ER 4.92 || Wickets 13 || Avg 15.92
Akeal Hosein has only surrendered less than 20 runs in six games this season. If Odean Smith and Romario Shepherd united for Guyana, Hosein and Narine’s spin tandem did the majority of the damage for TKR. Despite bowling a few overs in the powerplay, Hosein, like Narine, finished with an economy rate of fewer than 5.
11) Rampaul, Ravi (Trinbago Knight Riders)
ER 7.96 || Wickets 19 || Avg 16.21
Ravi Rampaul will be 37 years old when the T20 World Cup begins next month. But it didn’t stop him from fighting his way back into the national team for the showcase event, thanks to some impressive performances. Rampaul finished the season as the team’s leading wicket-taker with 19 wickets. Rampaul was outstanding in practically every game, with the exception of the semi-final, when he conceded 56 runs, resulting in his team’s elimination.
