Delhi’s current temperature: Within the next two to three days, there may be a slight rise of 1-2 degrees.

According to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department, the temperature in Delhi is projected to hover around 38 degrees Celsius for the next 2-3 days. Following this period, there might be a gradual increase in temperature by 1-2 degrees. Additionally, there’s a chance of light rain on Monday as per the IMD’s forecast.

“We estimate that in Delhi, the temperature is expected to remain around 38 degrees Celsius in the coming 2-3 days,” said Naresh Kumar, a senior scientist at IMD Delhi. After that, the temperature may gradually rise by one or two degrees, and tomorrow may see some light rain.

“At the moment, 1-2 stations in Eastern India have recorded temperatures as high as 44 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Eastern India can reach 44 degrees Celsius in the next four to five days, but there is little chance that it will go close to 40 or higher than 41 degrees Celsius in Northwest India,” he continued.

We have issued a red alert for West Bengal due to the heatwave to severe heatwave that is prevailing there. There is a 6.5 to 4 degree increase in temperature over average. Senior IMD scientist Naresh Kumar added, “The minimum temperature is also higher than usual along with this.”

On Saturday, the IMD issued an orange alert for Odisha, signaling severe weather conditions. Additionally, a yellow alert was issued for Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu for the next five days. According to the weather agency, heatwave conditions prevailed in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal on Saturday.

Bankura sizzled at 44.6 degrees Celsius, while Midnapore sizzled at 44.5 degrees Celsius in West Bengal. Similarly, the highest temperatures recorded in Jharkhand were 43.6 and 43.5 degrees Celsius in the Daltonganj and Jamshedpur regions.

In the meantime, from April 21 to April 25, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms with lightning and strong gusts for several areas of Andhra Pradesh. Strong winds are predicted to gust between 30 and 50 km/h, according to a news statement from the weather office.

Given the current heatwave conditions, the government of Odisha has declared vacations for all state schools. On April 22 and 24, the schools will be open from 6.30 am until 10.30 am. The schools will be closed for summer vacation starting on April 25. Due to the heatwave, the Patna, Bihar, district administration also changed the start of the school week.

The state of Uttar Pradesh is on the edge of experiencing a heatwave, with multiple cities recording high temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius. The country is expected to see more heatwave days than usual in April—four to eight days, as opposed to the typical one to three days—according to the weather service.
