IPL 2024 Points Table: Rajasthan Royals Rise to 2nd Place After Victory Against Delhi Capitals

In Thursday’s match in Jaipur, Rajasthan Royals secured their second win of IPL 2024 by defeating Delhi Capitals by 12 runs. Batting first, RR posted 185/5 in 20 overs, led by Riyan Parag’s quickfire 84* off 45 balls. Despite David Warner’s 49-run contribution, RR restricted DC to 173/5. With this victory, Sanju Samson’s team now occupies the second position on the points table, boasting four points from two matches and a net run rate of +0.800.

Shifting the focus to the flip side, Delhi Capitals found themselves on the receiving end of their second defeat this season, failing to notch up any points and remaining anchored at the bottom in the eighth spot. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings are asserting their dominance at the summit of the points table with four points and a remarkable net run-rate of +1.979.

According to the current points table, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings occupy the third, fourth, and fifth positions on the points table, respectively.

As for the match itself, young Riyan Parag showcased his immense talent, smashing an impressive unbeaten 84 off just 45 deliveries, leading Rajasthan Royals to a thrilling 12-run victory over Delhi Capitals in their IPL encounter in Jaipur on Thursday.

Despite a shaky start that saw RR at 36 for 3 in the eighth over, the 22-year-old Parag turned the tide single-handedly, guiding the home team to a formidable total of 185 for 5 with a spectacular unbeaten innings. His knock, embellished with seven fours and six sixes, was nothing short of magnificent.

Promoted to number 4 by the team management this season, Parag continued his impressive form after scoring 43 in the previous match. In a stunning display of batting prowess, he plundered 25 runs off veteran South African pacer Anrich Nortje in the final over, comprising scores of 4, 4, 6, 4, 6, 1, to achieve his highest T20 score.

Despite chasing a target of 186 for victory, Delhi Capitals could only muster 173 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. South African youngster Tristan Stubbs contributed valiantly with an unbeaten 44 off 23 balls, keeping them in contention until the final over where they needed 17 runs.

Avesh Khan helped RR win their second straight game by giving up just four runs.

Yuzvendra Chahal and South African pacer Nandre Burger each claimed two wickets to help the RR triumph.

Following a convincing victory over the Gujarat Titans, the Chennai Super Kings maintained their lead in the IPL rankings. Despite the fact that the Royals also have four points, CSK leads due to a better net run rate.
