On March 29th, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar designates a holiday for all banks nationwide in observance of the Good Friday festival. While it’s not recognized as a national holiday, some states may still keep banks open despite the RBI’s directive.

In many states, banks will be closed on March 29 in observance of Good Friday. According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) vacation schedule, banks in every state were closed for 14 days in March 2024. All Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays, public holidays, and regional holidays were all included in the list. State-specific decisions are made on regional holidays, which may vary across the nation. Real-Time Gross Settlement Holidays, Bank Closing of Account Holidays, and Negotiable Instruments Act holidays are all classified by the RBI.

Where are the open banks on Good Friday, 2024?

On Good Friday, banks will be closed in all states except Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Srinagar. In these mentioned states, banks will remain open, while in all other states, they will be closed in observance of Good Friday. The Internet banking services will be operational on Good Friday, even though the normal bank locations will be closed.

As an example, the following bank holidays were observed in March 2024: Chapchar Kut (March 1), Mahashivratri (March 8), and Holi (March 25). State-specific holidays like Yaosang second day/Holi on March 26 and 27, and Bihar Diwas on March 22, were observed in Bihar.

Are banks to be open on 31 March?

For the end of the financial year on March 31st, banks across the country typically shut down. However, this year, the RBI has issued a special directive. All designated branches of agency banks will remain open on both Saturday and Sunday (March 31st), as part of special measures for the current financial year.

April 2024 Bank Holiday Schedule.

The RBI calendar indicates that banks will be closed for 14 days in April of this year. Several holidays, including Babu Jagjivan Ram’s birthday (Jumat-ul-Vida), Gudhi Padwa (Ugadi), Telugu New Year (Sajibu Nongmapanba), Ist Navratri, Ramzan-Id, Bohag Bihu, Cheiraoba (Baisakhi/Biju/Himachal Day), Shree Ram Navami, and Garia Puja, would result in bank closures on these days.

Bank Availability on March 30th and 31st as per RBI Directive

The RBI has instructed all agency banks to keep their designated branches open for over-the-counter transactions related to government transactions until normal working hours on both March 30th and March 31st.
