Jamshedpur defeated ATK Mohun Bagan 2-1 and ended the Kolkata-based club’s winning start to the season at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Monday.
It was end-to-end action right from the beginning of the match. A brace from Valskis secured 3 points for Jamshedpur FC, in a happening fixture versus ATK Mohun Bagan. Jamshedpur had some opportunities in the first half to take the lead, but eventually they broke the deadlock in the 30th min of the game with a towering header from Valskis. Jamshedpur’s defensive organisation was spot on in the first half as they did not allow any space to Roy Krishna in Bagan’s attacking third and completely nullified the Fijian’s threat.
ATK Mohun Bagan started the 2nd half well creating chances but they were just not clinical enough. Roy Krishna came very close to scoring a goal from Prabir Das’ low cross, but Rehnesh brilliantly saved the strike.
Jamshedpur doubled their lead against the run of play as Valskis converted once again from Aitor Monroy’s corner.
Krishna finally pulled one back for the Kolkata club in the 80th minute. Subhasish Bose sent a long ball towards the edge of the box and Manvir headed it towards Krishna, who took a touch, went past Rehenesh and scored the goal. The goal stood despite the Bagan striker scoring from an offside position.
It was a brilliant display from Jamshedpur as they beat the former ISL champions and have made the season more competitive.
