The Supreme Court postpones Ramdev’s request to combine the cases until July

The states of Bihar and Chhattisgarh were given two weeks by the bench to update it on the progress of their cases.

New Delhi: On Friday, the Supreme Court decided to delay the discussion until July regarding a request made by yoga guru Ramdev. He wants the FIRs filed against him in various states, for saying that allopathy cannot treat Covid-19, to be combined.
The states of Bihar and Chhattisgarh were given two weeks by a bench of Justices MM Sundresh and SVN Bhatti to report to them on the status of the first information reports (FIRs) and the chargesheet filed.

Ramdev’s lawyer was given permission by the Supreme Court to involve the complainants in the case before the court. The case has been scheduled for July.
In response to criminal FIRs filed against him in several states for allegedly making comments on the effectiveness of allopathy in treating COVID-19, Ramdev approached the highest court to request protection.

The yoga guru requested that the FIRs against him be combined and transferred to Delhi. He also asked for a halt to the proceedings in the multiple cases against him and sought protection from any coercive actions. Additionally, he wanted the FIRs filed by the Indian Medical Associations (IMA) branches in Patna and Raipur to be transferred to Delhi.

Ramdev has been charged with violating the Disaster Management Act, 2005, specifically Sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and other.

In a video from 2021, Ramdev was purportedly heard saying, “Allopathy is a foolish science, and medications like Remdesivir, Fabiflu, and other drugs authorized by the Drugs Controller General of India have not been successful in treating Covid-19 patients.”

His comments sparked widespread outrage, prompting the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to issue a legal notice to him.
Police in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, registered an FIR following a complaint from the local IMA unit against Ramdev. The complaint accused him of spreading “false” information about the medicines used by the medical community to treat Covid-19.
According to the complaint, Ramdev has allegedly been spreading false information and making threatening statements on social media against medicines used by the medical community, the Government of India, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and other frontline organizations involved in COVID-19 treatment.

The complaint stated that there are numerous videos of Ramdev on social media where he allegedly made misleading remarks of this nature.
