Tendulkar praises Pandya’s finish as MI destroys RCB!

After defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians moved up to seventh place in the IPL 2024 ranking.

After MI’s second consecutive victory in the current IPL 2024 season, Sachin Tendulkar praised the Hardik Pandya-led team.

The Mumbai Indians defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium to record their second straight victory. Hardik Pandya, the MI captain, hit the game-winning six, making it a one-sided contest.

After chasing 197, MI chased to 199/3 in 15.3 overs, with a six from Hardik Pandya that sealed the victory. In the meantime, MI half-centuries were scored by Suryakumar Yadav (52) and Ishan Kishan (69).

Initially, MI held RCB to 196/8 in 20 overs owing to Jasprit Bumrah’s 5/21. Faf du Plessis (61), Rajat Patidar (50), and Dinesh Karthik (53*) scored half-centuries for the visiting team.

After the game, MI squad coach Sachin Tendulkar praised Pandya and the team through X.“Two wins on the trot now for @mipaltan after a tricky start to the tournament. @Jaspritbumrah93 was sensational, once again proving why he’s the best in the business”, he wrote.

“@ImRo45 and @ishankishan51’s fearless batting during the powerplay overs effectively reduced the required run rate. It was good to see @surya_14kumar hitting the ball so sweetly after his injury layoff. Lovely to have him back in the team, playing in top gear. @hardikpandya7 finishing the game off in style was the icing on the cake”, he further added.

With four points from five games—two victories and three losses—MI is currently ranked seventh in the IPL 2024 points standings following the victory. RCB, meanwhile, has two points from six games and is ranked ninth.

When Hardik Pandya stepped out to bat during the match on Thursday, the Wankhede Stadium crowd mocked him, which upset Virat Kohli. The supporters did not approve of the choice to name Hardik as the Mumbai Indians captain ahead of the tournament, and after three straight losses, there was a segment of the audience that had booed Hardik in the past. The crowd’s opposing response, meanwhile, did not impress Kohli, who motioned for them to clap for the MI captain instead. The move gained immediate popularity, with people applauding him for what he had done.

During the Mumbai Indians’ chase, Pandya’s fortunes dramatically changed as he delivered an amazing effort with the bat, scoring 21 not out off 6 balls with the help of three sixes. He took the wickets off Will Jacks to begin his innings, then off Vijaykumar Vyshak to end it with a beautiful scoop over covers off Akash Deep.

Mumbai Indians defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru handily appreciation to outstanding batting performances from Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan as well as a five-wicket haul from Jasprit Bumrah.
