SRH Breaks Their Own Record: Scored 287 Runs in IPL 2024 Against RCB!

At M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 15, smashing their previous record for the most runs scored in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with 287 runs in 20 overs.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad power hitters, Travis Head (102), Abhishek Sharma (34), Heinrich Klaasen (67), Aiden Markram (32) and Abdul Samad (37), smashed 22 massive sixes and 19 boundaries during the innings.

Several records were set during the match between SRH and RCB. In this IPL season, the Sunrisers broke their previous record of 277 runs against the Mumbai Indians. The current score of 287 is the second-highest in T20 cricket history in addition to being the highest in IPL competitions to far.

Travis Head powered a 108-run opening partnership in only 49 balls, scoring a half-century during the powerplay. Abhishek Sharma fell to Reece Topley in the eighth over for 34 off 22, bringing the opening partnership to an end. However, SRH is keen to continue the carnage, having promoted Heinrich Klaasen to No.3. The carnage never stopped, with Klaasen smashing 67 in 31 balls. Abdul Samad then smashed an undefeated 37 in the ten balls he faced, pushing SRH above their previous high of 277.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru fans may have seen cause for hope as their skipper Faf du Plessis eventually won the toss and chose to bowl. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad unleashed on what may be the most spectacular show of power hitting in IPL history. They beat their own record for the greatest ever IPL score, scoring 287/3.

SRH’s most recent performance of scoring the quickest 200 runs in 14.4 overs came against MI in Bengaluru in 2024, followed by another 14.6 overs against RCB in Bengaluru in the same year. The fourth quickest 200 came from KKR’s hitters, who did it against Delhi Capitals in 15.2 overs in Vizag in 2024.

It was the first time four bowlers from a single side gave up 50 or more runs in the same innings. R Topley of RCB gave 68 runs, while Yash Dayal conceded 51, Lockie Ferguson 52, and Vijaykumar Vyshak 64.

RCB got off to a great start in the chase, outscoring SRH by 79 runs on the powerplay. Virat Kohli hit 42 in 20 balls, while Faf du Plessis made 62 in 28. Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, ensured that RCB was not humiliated at home by smashing 83 runs in 35 balls. With all of these efforts, RCB finished with a score of 262/7. RCB lost by 25 runs.
