Mumbai news: City to face 15% water cut today.

Mumbai will see a 15% water cut today, March 19, according to a statement from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The BMC claims that this water cut is the result of Pise Dam’s low water level after repairs. The water cut would last for a full day throughout the city of Mumbai, according to the civic authorities.

Additionally, it stated that because of pre-monsoon maintenance work at the Bhandup complex, a five percent water cut will remain in effect until April 24 in addition to the fifteen percent cut.

The water supply would be restored after the Dam, which is around 60 kilometers from the city, receives water from the Bhatsa reservoir, according to a statement released by the BMC on Monday night.

The water supply would be restored after the Dam, which is around 60 kilometers from the city, receives water from the Bhatsa reservoir, according to a statement released by the BMC on Monday night.

Due to scheduled cleaning at one of Asia’s largest water purifying plants, the BMC stated last week that Mumbai would see a five percent water decrease from March 15 to April 24.

Due to low lake levels, the civic body had previously suggested a 10% water cut; however, it was never implemented because the state government promised to make up the shortfall with water from its reserve supply.

The civic organization had earlier on March 1st declared that residents would not be subject to a ten percent water cut at this time because the state government had committed to providing the city with water from its allotment. The state saw a monsoon till October 15 in 2022 and 2021, but in 2023 there was no rain in October, according to the BMC, which also stated that the reservoirs providing water to Mumbai had 5.58 percent less water storage than the year before.

Importantly, it should be noted that the reservoirs in the districts of Thane, Nashik, Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar, and Tulsi supply 3800 MLD (million liters per day) of water to Mumbai.
