Keeping an eye on future conflicts, the Army has formed a special advanced technology team.

The Army’s Signals Technology Evaluation and Adaptation Group (STEAG) assesses cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, and potential future advancements like 6G for military applications. They want to make talking between soldiers even better by making their own cool gadgets and working with smart people from schools and companies. When war happens nowadays, they need new gear to help soldiers talk better while they’re out doing missions.

New Delhi: The Army has formed a special team called the Signal Technology Evaluation and Adaptation Group (STEAG) to test and understand futuristic communication technologies like smart computers, super-fast internet, and even faster internet for future military use. They’re also looking into other fancy things like machines that learn on their own and super advanced tech called quantum stuff.

“Good communication is key for the military to do its job effectively.”

A senior officer said on Monday that in the rapidly changing battlefield tech, the group with the best way to talk and share information between different parts will have an advantage over their enemy.

In today’s warfare, it’s important to bring in new equipment to help units and groups communicate smoothly during missions. STEAG, which focuses on embracing these technological advancements, will strengthen the Army’s abilities in the digital realm. Led by a Colonel, STEAG will be the place where customized technologies are created, covering everything from wired and wireless systems to mobile communication, fancy radios, electronic warfare, super-fast internet (5G, 6G), and advanced technologies like quantum stuff and smart learning machines.

It will be the first of its kind unit with the capacity to apply cutting-edge solutions, specialized technology, and cooperation and partnership to find appropriate use cases for defense applications.”It will be the first of its kind unit to be equipped with the capability to harness niche technology, leverage cutting-edge solutions, and identify suitable use cases for defense applications by fostering collaboration and partnership with the academia and industry”, added the officer.

Technical scouting, evaluation, creation, and management of core ICT solutions will be handled by STEAG. Additionally, by maintaining and upgrading the environment’s modern technologies, STEAG will support user interfaces. “It will help bridge the divide between the armed forces on one hand and the industry and academia on the other,” he stated.
