Preview: A revamped West Indies team looks for a winning recipe

West Indies, a two-time winner, and Scotland square off in the opening match of Group B of the T20 World Cup at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

The focus moves to Group B on Monday with West Indies playing Scotland in Hobart in their opening match of the competition after a thrilling start in Group A over the weekend.

Overview

West Indies’ recent history has hardly been one of easy sailing. The team that traveled to Australia has had difficulties, losing a T20I series against the hosts and barely defeating a determined UAE team in one of the warm-up games.

West Indies’ skipper Nicholas Pooran faces a challenging assignment as he attempts to turn the team back into the T20I cricket powerhouse that they once were after they underperformed in the last edition.

The Daren Sammy squads, which went on to win the cup twice, had more star power and depth than the current Windies squad. Shimron Hetmyer missed his flight and was later dropped, therefore it is unknown how much his absence will impact the team. Although Hetmyer and his powerful hits would be severely missed, the previous champs still have enough left to begin the game with a victory.

Rain caused the earlier warm-up matches between Scotland and West Indies to be cancelled. Few bettors are placing money on Pooran’s team winning the competition, but they are predicted to go to the Super 12.
