Visa issues delay net bowlers Umran, Sen’s Australia departure

India’s tearaway fast bowler Umran Malik, who found himself in the spotlight after bowling the fastest delivery by an Indian in IPL history (157 kmph), is unable to travel to Australia for the T20 World Cup 2022 on time due to visa issues.

The 22-year-old Malik is one of India’s designated net bowlers for the forthcoming World Cup in Australia, and will now feature in the J&K squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) to be played in Mohali. The pacer has been exempted by the BCCI to join the J&K squad for the domestic tournament and has joined the team in Mohali for the Elite Group C match against Meghalaya.

As of now, there is no official information that says when Umran will board the flight to Australia and it remains unknown how many matches he will play for J&K.

Reports have also suggested another net bowler Kuldeep Sen’s departure has also been delayed. However, whether or not he will play for Madhya Pradesh in their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy fixture against Rajasthan in Rajkot is still unknown.

Umran, Mohammed Siraj, and Sen were scheduled to travel with the India squad to their training base in Perth on October 6. However, following Jasprit Bumrah’s injury, Siraj was selected for the ODI series against South Africa while Umran has missed his flight due to visa issues.

There is a possibility, however, that Umran and Sen could likely leave on October 12 with the other standby players who are currently playing against South Africa.
