CPL 2022: Barbados maintain cent per cent record with 4th win in four games; Patriots log first victory

Barbados Royals stamped their authority in the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 with a fourth straight win, beating Saint Lucia Kings by six wickets.

The Royals fielded first after winning the toss and at one point, had St Lucia Kings at 90 for 5. However, Tim David and David Wiese came together to put up a 79-run sixth wicket stand in 43 balls that allowed the Kings to post a respectable 169 for six in their 20 overs.

But the total just wasn’t enough for a dominant Barbados Royals side as they chased it down. Opener Quinton de Kock was dismissed early before Corbin Bosch arrived at the crease, smashing 81 in 50 deliveries laced with 10 fours and one six. Kyle Mayers and Corbin Bosch together, smashed 84 runs off 48 balls.

Bosch departed, but David Miller and Jason Holder held on to see the Royals home. Miller scored 29 not out in 18 deliveries as Barbados Royals achieved their target with nine balls and six wickets to spare.

In another game, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots secured their first victory of the CPL 2022 season with a four-wicket victory over Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Batting first after winning the toss, Guyana Amazon Warriors laboured to 66 runs in the first ten overs, before skipper Shimron Hetmyer hammered 46 off only 21 balls, as they eventually reached 162/6 at the end of 20 overs. Chandrapaul Hemraj also scored an importan 43 off 38 balls.

A second wicket stand of 47 runs between Andre Fletcher (41) and Dewald Bravis (13) steading St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ innings but began losing wickets frequently thereafter. After Dwayne Bravo and Darren Bravo departed in the 16th over, the Patriots appeared to be sinking.

However, Dwaine Pretorius (27 not out in 12 balls) took the bowling apart with three sixes. Then, Duan Jansen (23 not out) and Pretorius stitched a 55-run partnership to ensure their team a spectacular victory. This was the Patriots first win in the CPL 2022, with two balls remaining.
