According to ESPN, Manchester United have made tying down Marcus Rashford to a new deal in the summer their top priority despite the 24-year-old’s dip in form. The forward has struggled to put his best foot forward since making a comeback after a two-month layoff because of a shoulder injury.

After a rather impressive 2020/21 season, Marcus Rashford took a few months off after the Euro 2020 to handle a recurrent shoulder injury. However, it meant that the 24-year-old would miss the start of the 2021/22 season and while Rashford has since made his comeback, things haven’t quite worked out for him. The forward has struggled immensely for form, netting just three goals across all competitions for Manchester United.

Yet with eighteen months left on his current contract, ESPN has reported that Manchester United have made a new contract for Rashford a priority in the summer. The club are keen on not repeating the Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard situations, and are thus trying to head this off at the pass. The report has indicated that the 24-year-old is keen on re-signing with his boyhood club and United are confident they can come to an agreement with him.

However, ESPN further reported that the Red Devils are also not concerned with Rashford’s lack of form as they believe he is still recovering from his surgery. The forward played through most of last season with the long-standing shoulder injury which forced corrective surgery over the summer, and is thus yet to get back to his best form.
