Motera Stadium Renamed As Narendra Modi Stadium Ahead Of England Clash

Just hours before the start of the third Test between India and England, Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah and Indian President Ram Nath Kovind renamed the Motera stadium as Narendra Modi stadium. Post that, the two were also involved in the ‘bhumi pujan’ of the venue, ahead of the clash.

With all the hype around the Motera stadium, which could house upto 110,000 people at the venue, it was expected to be a grand opening for the fixture between India and England. Just hours before the start of the pink-ball clash, Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah and Indian President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the venue with ‘bhumi pujan’, before renaming it after the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

The inauguration of the venue also sees a crowd of 55,000 people, who have all flocked in numbers to witness the cracker-jack of a contest between India and England over the next five days. It is also worth noting that the venue is the world’s largest cricketing venue, with a total capacity of over 110,000 people.

Last year, the venue was first used during American president Donald Trump’s visit to India and since then has been used as the venue for the knock-out stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which saw Tamil Nadu as the winners. Now, it would host the last two Tests of the series and the five-match T20I series that follows.
