A second successive win helped FC Goa climb to fourth on the ISL table as they beat a gritty Odisha FC 1-0 at Bambolim on Saturday.
The Gaurs dominated proceedings from the start while Odisha decided to stay compact and absorb the pressure. Goa controlled the game right from the off and had more than 65 per cent of ball possession in the first half. Odisha, on the other hand, were not up to the mark and failed to pose any threat in their attacking third.
Brandon, Ortiz and Angulo combined well and were a constant threat to the Odisha defense.
Igor Angulo scored the winner in the first minute of first half injury time — a lovely touch setting up a powerful finish after good work from Alexander Romario Jesuraj on Goa’s left flank.
The Gaurs continued to dominate proceedings in the second half as well as Odisha no real urgency to score an equaliser.
Juan Ferrando’s side could have easily increased their tally if not for Arshdeep Singh’s brilliant performance under the bar. Jorge Ortiz came close to score twice but on both occassions the Odisha goalkeepers pulled of quality saves.
Igor Angulo’s strike ensured 3 points for the Gaurs, in a game that could have seen many more goals scored.
