Northeast United held Chennaiyin to a goalless draw in an Indian Super League (ISL) clash on Sunday at the Tilak Maidan, Goa.
A very competitive game full of action on either end but with no goals. Both the sides started on a positive note with lots of chances at goal but the flood gates never opened for either side. Both the teams showed resilience and discipline at the back and will be happy to earn a point here.
The first half saw action at both ends as teams had their fair share of chances to break the deadlock. Chennaiyin had more possession of the ball but were wasteful in the attacking third.
The Marina Machans should have broken the deadlock at the beginning of the second half when Chhangte found Jakub Sylvester with a through ball inside the box but the forward failed to keep his shot on target.
For the Highlanders, Idrissa Sylla was unlucky not to score, as his curling shot from the edge of the box had almost got in if not for Vishal Kaith’s agility under the bar.
NUEFC has its fourth draw in six matches to maintain its unbeaten run and moves to 2nd on the table. CFC remains 8th on the table with five points from as many matches.
