Mahendragarh bus accident: According to authorities, the incident occurred near Unhani village in Kanina at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday.

Haryana police have detained three people in connection with the deaths of six children in a traffic accident in Mahendragarh. Those arrested included the principal of the school and the driver of a private bus transporting the victims.

The police said the accident happened near Unhani village in Kanina at around 8:30 am on Thursday. There were 40 children on the bus. The children who passed away have been named as Satyam, Yuvraj, Vansh, Ricky, Anshu, and Yakush.

  1. The police said the driver, Dharmender, was driving very fast before the accident. He couldn’t control the bus, and it crashed into a tree, flipping over. Twenty children got hurt.
  2. The police stated that a medical test showed the driver was drunk. They arrested him at the accident site. They also arrested the school principal, Deepti, and another school official named Hoshiar Singh.
  3. Some parents of school children in Kheri village took the bus driver’s key on Thursday morning and informed the principal. The principal promised to replace him on Friday. However, she asked parents to return the key to avoid delays for the children. She assured them that a new driver would start the next day. Sanjay Kumar, a farmer from Jhaadhli village, said they had complained about the driver multiple times, but the school authorities didn’t take action.
  4. Aditya, a Class 9 student from Dhanaunda, shared that the driver was driving too fast. He mentioned that when the bus crashed into a tree, the driver lost control. Aditya explained that students in both the front and rear rows got hurt because the windows broke upon impact. He added that the driver jumped off the bus after the collision with the tree.
  5. According to an FIR filed by a Class 12 student, the drunk driver ignored students’ attempts to slow down, PTI said. He apparently made them feel threatened. The bus did not have a helper. Two of the deceased were members of the same family.
  6. Haryana’s education minister, Seema Trikha, said the government has requested the school to explain why the students were summoned despite the fact that Thursday was a vacation for Eid. According to PTI, the district education officer has made an application to the state government to cancel its recognition.
  7. Transport Minister Aseem Goel mentioned that the Haryana authorities had fined the bus recently for missing documents. Additionally, the Mahendragarh administration has suspended an assistant secretary in the office of the district transport secretary. They’ve assigned the Additional Transport Commissioner (Road Safety) to investigate the accident and determine who is responsible.
  8. In connection with the incident, a case has been registered under IPC Sections 109 (whoever abets any offense), 279 (rash driving), 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 336 (whoever does any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others), 337 (causing harm by endangering life), 120-B (Whoever is a party to a criminal conspiracy), and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
  9. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the accident, describing it as extremely painful. President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her condolences, calling the loss of schoolchildren heart-rending. Union Home Minister Amit Shah similarly offered his condolences for the tragic loss of children’s lives. Their statements reflect the nation’s grief and solidarity in mourning the tragic incident.
  10. BJP chief J P Nadda, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and Randeep Singh Surjewala, AAP leader Sushil Gupta, INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala, and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala expressed their grief over the accident.
