The authorities in Gujarat have arrested the owners and employees of an eatery for allegedly selling samosas containing beef.

A man and five other people were detained in Vadodara, Gujarat, on suspicion of selling samosas stuffed with cow flesh to patrons without disclosing the information. Following information, the police raided the “Hussaini Samosa” store in the Chhipwad region and seized hundreds of kg of beef-based samosa stuffing. After the confiscated item was submitted for FSL testing, the presence of cow meat was verified. According to DCP (zone 4) Panna Momaya, the shop owners and four other people were detained and charged with crimes connected to the incident once the test results were received.

Yusuf Sheikh and Naeem Sheikh have been recognized as the owners; Hanif Bhathiyara, Dilawar Pathan, Moin Habdal, and Mobin Sheikh are the other four employees.

According to the police report, a lot of individuals in the city ate these samosas thinking they were meat samosas. “Every day, the owners would make large batches of kachha samosas (not fried), which they would then deliver to stores all over the city to be fried and served to patrons. They were once meat samosas that the Sheikhs sold to the owners of retail stores.”

The accused were found to be running their operations from a five-storey building, where they had repurposed one of the rooms into a deep freezer for storing beef and other meats. Yusuf Sheikh, one of the arrested individuals, disclosed during interrogation that he had followed his father’s footsteps into the samosa-selling business.

However, upon investigation, it was revealed that the accused did not possess a valid license to operate the shop. Authorities are currently conducting an inquiry to ascertain the duration for which the owners had been selling samosas containing beef.

Yusuf stated that he opted for cow meat due to its lower cost compared to buffalo or goat meat, which allowed him to achieve a higher profit margin. Additionally, an ongoing probe is being conducted to determine the origin of the beef meat used by the accused in their samosas.
