Science Enables Sun Symbol on Ram Lalla’s First Ram Navami in Ayodhya.

Today is Ram Navami, and something wonderful will happen. Ram Lalla, who was welcomed to Ayodhya’s Ram Temple in January, will see Surya Tilak or Surya Abhishek, which involves the Sun kissing the deity’s forehead.

During the rite, sunlight will shine directly on Ram Lalla’s forehead. Lord Ram of the Ishvaku clan is thought to be the Sun’s descendants or Suryavanshis. The unique architecture of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir would result in surya tilak’ emerging on Ram Lalla’s idol every year on Ram Navami.

At 12 pm today, solar rays will illuminate Ram Lalla’s forehead in the sanctum sanctorum of Ram Mandir for approximately 2.5 minutes. The sunlight landing on Ram Lalla’s forehead will form a Surya Tilak.
Scientists from IIT-Roorkee were brought in to create the Surya Tilak mechanism. They used a device with high-quality mirrors and lenses to accurately aim the Sun’s rays onto Ram Lalla’s forehead at a certain time.

According to reports, the equipment consists of a gearbox with reflecting mirrors and lenses. It will allow sun rays from the third level near the shikara to be reflected into the ‘garbhagriha’ (sanctum sanctorum) at the appropriate moment.

The tilak apparatus’ components were composed of brass and bronze for durability and corrosion resistance. According to an India Today story, the gearbox was designed to correctly place the sun on Ram Navami day each year using the lunar calendar. The optical route, pipings, and tip-tilts are all spring-free for long-lasting performance and minimum maintenance. Scientists have previously carried out testing of the Surya Tilak method. The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) in Bengaluru provided technical support for the Sun’s course, while Optica, a Bengaluru-based firm, manufactured the lenses and brass tubes.

The Ram Navami Trust has set guidelines
The Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has published instructions for Ram Navami. To manage the expected crowds, all VIP darshan permits have been canceled, and darshan times have been adjusted.
They took X and wrote, “The duration of Darshan has been extended to 19 hours, starting from the Mangala Aarti and continuing until 11 PM at night. The curtain will be closed only for five minutes during the four Bhog offerings. Distinguished guests are requested to visit for Darshan only after April 19.”
“The celebration of Shri Ram Janmotsav will be broadcasted on about a hundred large LED screens throughout Ayodhya City. There will also be live broadcasts on the Trust’s social media accounts,” they wrote on X.
Also added “not to bring their mobile phones and valuable items” to “avoid inconvenience and waste of time during Darshan.”
