Rohit Sharma Became the 1st Indian Cricketer to hit 500 sixes in T20 Cricket

Mumbai opener Rohit Sharma attacked Ravindra Jadeja in the 11th over of the contest against CSK, his 500th T20 six. Rohit is the first Indian hitter to achieve this high level. During the match, MI won the toss and they elected to field first.

Former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma achieved a significant feat by becoming the first Indian player to hit 500 sixes in T20 cricket. Rohit, who had 497 sixes to his name before the match, reached this milestone by smashing Jadeja for a maximum through the leg side during the 11th over of the match. Leading the team against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 14, Sharma displayed an aggressive batting performance. His explosive innings aided MI in making a swift start in pursuit of the 207-run target set by CSK. Although it didn’t go in the winning side for MI.

Rohit Sharma showed his typical batting skills throughout the match, scoring 105 runs off only 63 balls. His incredible knock included eleven boundaries and five sixes.

Despite seeing wickets fall at the other end, the former Mumbai Indians skipper anchored the innings with determination, maintaining an excellent strike rate of 166.67.

With these two sixes, Rohit’s overall number of sixes now stands at 502.

West Indies icon Chris Gayle has the most sixes in T20 cricket, followed by all-rounders Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, and Colin Munro. Rohit is the 5th player to reach this milestone.
Rohit has scored 261 runs in six IPL matches this season, with an average of 52.20 and a strike rate of more than 167, including a century.

On Sunday, Rohit Sharma quickly found his rhythm against CSK and maintained a brisk pace while partnering with Ishan Kishan. Together, they amassed 70 runs off just 43 balls, providing MI with a promising opportunity to chase down the formidable total set by CSK. Despite losing two quick wickets in Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit held firm at one end. He then formed a vital partnership of 60 runs off 38 balls with Tilak Varma for the 3rd wicket, reigniting MI’s hopes. However, Rohit was compelled to reduce his scoring rate after the 12th over due to some outstanding bowling from the CSK unit.

Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten at 78 runs off 51 balls, while Mumbai Indians (MI) required 59 runs from the final 21 deliveries. MI faced a challenging situation after losing the wickets of Hardik Pandya and Tim David in rapid succession, making the chase of the target more daunting.

Throughout the IPL2024 season, Rohit has consistently maintained a high strike rate while batting, indicating promising prospects for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
