Dhoni Steps onto the Field for his Maiden IPL 2024 Batting Appearance in the DC vs CSK Encounter

IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals vs. CSK: On Sunday, MS Dhoni took the field to bat for the first time this season.

At the ACA-VDCA in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, MS Dhoni, the former captain of the Chennai Super Kings, took the field to bat for the first time in the IPL 2024 against the Delhi Capitals.

Prior to Sunday, Dhoni didn’t get the opportunity to bat. Ruturaj Gaikwad took over as captain when Dhoni resigned. While CSK lost as many as six wickets in their most recent match against Gujarat, they won their opening game by only losing four wickets in a chase against RCB, even though Dhoni did not bat.

The 42-year-old last batted for CSK against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final. Dhoni got off to a fantastic start, smashing the first delivery he faced from Mukesh Kumar for a four. He smashed one in the same over after pulling the short delivery behind square.

Sunday’s Chennai Super Kings match against the Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam will feature MS Dhoni batting in the final over, and he will end the game with a six. That was Michael Hussey, the batting coach for the Chennai Super Kings,’ prediction for DC vs. CSK before the IPL 2024 match started.

When Dhoni came out to bat and began swinging the bat in a circular motion to his right, the fans went crazy. As soon as the former Chennai captain hit his opening ball for four, the noise levels skyrocketed. After being dropped by Khalil, Dhoni persisted in his genius, hitting a couple boundaries against Delhi’s bowling attack, which was excellent for the majority of the evening.

On Sunday, Dhoni finally fulfilled both of those predictions as he batted for the first time in the IPL 2024 season and blasted the final ball of the match for a six. Nevertheless, Chennai lost by 20 runs as he was unable to lead the CSK team over the finish line.

“My prediction for the last over of the match is that MS Dhoni will be batting. The crowd will be roaring and MSD will hit a six to finish the match,” Hussey had said in a recent video uploaded by IPL on their social media.

When CSK needed 72 runs off 23 balls, Dhoni entered at number eight. Mukesh Kumar was bowled out for a four by Dhoni off the first ball he faced. On the second ball at backward point, he was dropped. Driven past the cover, he added another four to end the 17th over.

In the match’s last over, MS Dhoni blasted Anrich Nortje for 20 runs, demonstrating his decisive attitude. Dhoni was still undefeated at 37 off of just 17 balls. In the game’s last two overs, Dhoni refused to let Jadeja take a strike and went on to get CSK as close to the 192-run target as he could. By the end of the match, Dhoni had amassed four boundaries and three sixes in a classic performance that cemented his status as one of the greatest cricket players of all time.

Anrich Nortje’s opening delivery was hit for four by Dhoni, with 41 runs needed off the last over. Dhoni punished the low full toss on the next ball, smashing it over long off for a six. He then scored another boundary, yet another over mid-on, on Nortje’s fourth ball. With six over covers, he ended the over.

The five-time IPL champion captain struck at 231.25 in his debut innings after 307 days, remaining undefeated on 37 off 16 balls with four fours and three sixes.
