In Hobart, Ireland defeated West Indies by nine wickets to eliminate the two-time champions from the T20 World Cup in 2022.

The only side to win the T20 World Cup twice, the West Indies, was eliminated from the current competition after losing their final Group B qualification match against Ireland in Hobart on Friday by nine wickets. West Indies made a disastrous start against Scotland, losing by 42 runs, but they bounced back to easily defeat Zimbabwe.

With one win and one loss, each of the four teams in the group, which also includes Scotland and Zimbabwe, entered a life-or-death position.

Ireland, which had previously lost to Zimbabwe before coming from behind to win, put on a masterful display against the formidable Windies with both bat and ball to advance to the Super 12 round.

“Incredible day for us; it was amazing to cross the finish line in the way we did. Knowing they would come hard, Nathan Hauritz devised the basic but effective strategy of being defensive. For me, it is a fulfillment of a dream. We had a chance thanks to Campher’s knock the other day, and we’re done now. Enjoy the following weeks,” added Delany, who was named Player of the Match.
