On October 27, 2022, BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah announced that Indian women’s cricket players would receive the same compensation as their male counterparts.

According to a Twitter statement, men’s and women’s cricket players will receive salaries of $15 lakh for Test matches, $6 lakh for one-day internationals, and $3 lakh for Twenty20 matches. Pay equity was Mr. Shah’s pledge to our female cricket players, and he thanked the apex council for their backing.

Mr. Shah remarked “I’m happy to inform you that BCCI has taken its first action to combating discrimination. We are putting our contracted women cricketers’ pay equity policy into practice. As we enter a new age of gender equality in Indian cricket, the match fee will be the same for male and women cricketers.”

A new era of potential is ushered in by pay parity: NCW

According to the National Commission for Women (NCW), the fact that female cricket players get the same match fee as their male counterparts signals a new era of equality and is a significant step toward achieving gender parity.

NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma described it as a significant success for women cricketers all around the country and a historic decision for women cricketers in India.

She added that female cricket players’ voices are finally being heard. The NCW said in a statement that the fact that female cricket players are paid the same match fee as their male counterparts signals a new age of equality and represents a significant step forward in the fight for gender equality.

The commission expressed its hope that this choice would encourage young athletes to pursue their love of the game and that other sports organizations would emulate the BCCI’s leadership in this area.
