IPL 2022 is set to start on March 26th as the extravaganza returns to India for its 15th season. After being held in UAE for 1 and a half years, the tournament is returning and a total of 70 league matches and 4 playoffs will be played in the 15th season of the IPL, which comprises 10 teams.

A lot of thinking happens for a T20 match and the captain is one of the most crucial people and one who takes the final decision.

As we near Tata IPL 2022, let’s have a look at the best captains in IPL history.

5) Adam Gilchrist

The Australian legend played IPL from 2008 to 2013 during which he captained two franchises – Deccan Chargers and King XI Punjab. Adam Gilchrist won 35 IPL matches in his captaincy, including the 2009 season title for Deccan Chargers.

4) Virat Kohli

The name needs no introduction. Virat Kohli has been with Royal Challengers Bangalore since 2008 and was first made the franchise captain in 2011. Kohli has captained RCB to a win in 64 IPL matches. However, he hasn’t been able to win an IPL title even once; RCB’s best finish has been the IPL finals.

3) Gautam Gambhir

Another Indian legend who has been absolutely masterful with his tactics. Gautam Gambhir won 71 matches through his captaincy for two different teams – Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders. Even though Delhi didn’t get an IPL title, KKR won twice under Gambhir – in 2012 & 2014.

2) Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful captains in IPL history. Rohit has led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles ever since he became the captain of the franchise in 2013. In total, Rohit has won 75 matches in IPL with his captaincy.

1) MS Dhoni

Whenever the term captaincy is used, the first name that comes to mind is MS Dhoni. The Indian legend has led an IPL franchise in 13 out of 14 IPL seasons that have happened so far.
