IPL 2022 is set to start on March 26th as the extravaganza returns to India for its 15th season. After being held in UAE for 1 and a half years, the tournament is returning and a total of 70 league matches and 4 playoffs will be played in the 15th season of the IPL, which comprises 10 teams. 

Bowlers are a crucial part of this batter-dominated format, to get hit for runs and still be able to maintain their nerve and keep bowling the right lengths, a bowler has to be skilful in all aspects to be able to bowl in a T20 game. 

As we near Tata IPL 2022, let’s have a look at the best bowling figures in IPL history. 

#5. Ishant Sharma (5/12 vs Kochi Tuskers Kerela, 2011)

While defending a total of 129, Hyderbad Deccan Chargers pacer Ishant Sharma left no stones unturned in protecting this small total, picking up 5 wickets in 3 overs giving away just 12 runs. Sharma was named player of the match for his performance as his 5 wickets restricted Kochi to 74 in 16.3 overs. Ishant Sharma ranks 5th in the list of top 5 best bowling figures in IPL.

#4. Anil Kumble (5/5 vs Rajasthan Royals, 2009)

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Anil Kumble, who is the leading wicket-taker for India in Tests and also has a 10-wicket haul to his name in a test inning, also showed his magic in the IPL. In the second season, RCB were defending a total of 133 against Rajasthan Royals in the 2nd match. Anil Kumble took 5 wickets and restricted Rajasthan to a mere 58 runs in 15.1 overs. Kumble’s scalps include names like Yusuf Pathan & Ravindra Jadeja and ranks 4th in the list of top 5 best bowling figures in IPL.

#3. Adam Zampa (6/19 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2016)

The Australian leg spinner Adam Zampa picked up 6 wickets in the 40th match of IPL 2016 while representing Rising Pune Supergiants. Zampa gave away just 19 runs in his 4 overs as RPS restricted SRH to 137/8 in the first innings. However, Hyderabad managed to defend the small total and won the match by 4 runs. 

#2. Sohail Tanvir (6/14 vs Chennai Super Kings, 2008)

Pakistani left-arm pacer produced a match-winning performance in the 40th match of the IPL season 1, 

where he picked up 6 wickets for 14 runs in his 4 overs as Rajasthan Royals restricted Chennai Super Kings to 109 in the first innings. Tanvir picked up CSK’s top 3 batters while managing to clear the lower-middle order and tail as well. RR won the match by 8 wickets and Tanvir’s 6/14 ranks second in the list of top 5 best bowling figures in IPL.

#1. Alzarri Joseph (6/12 vs Sunrisers Hyderbad, 2019)

Mumbai Indians pacer Alzarri Joseph produced a tremendous performance in the 19th match against Rajasthan Royals. MI posted a low total of 136/7 in the first innings but Joseph led Mumbai to a 40-run victory as he picked up 6 wickets in 3.4 overs while giving away just 12 runs. Joseph managed to dismiss Hyderabad captain David Warner early and led his team to a win, and ranks 1st in the list of top 5 bowling figures in IPL.
