Think Manchester United can be at level that fans want us to be at, claims Cristiano Ronaldo

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo believes that Manchester United can reach the level that the fans want them to but has asked his teammates to change their mindset. The forward also added that Ralf Rangnick has barely been here a month and needs time to put his ideas through.

Despite making three big signings over the summer window, Manchester United have struggled to perform this season with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer losing his job after a poor run of results. That saw Ralf Rangnick brought in and while the German has attempted to turn the ship around, the performances have been inconsistent so far. So much so, that it has fans and critics alike questioning Rangnick’s tactics especially with the Red Devils in seventh in the league table.

However, in light of United’s position at the league table, Cristiano Ronaldo believes that the Red Devils should never finish outside the top three and that doing so should be unacceptable. The Portuguese legend further added that the team needs to change their mentality in order to help the club compete and win trophies going forward.

“Manchester United should win the league or be second or third. I don’t see any other position for Manchester United. In my heart, I don’t accept that our mentality be less than being in the top three in the Premier League, in my opinion,” Ronaldo said, reported the Guardian.

“I think to build up good things sometimes you have to destroy a few things. New year, new life, I hope that Manchester can be at the level people want, especially the fans. We are capable of changing things now.

“We can do it better, all of us. I don’t want to be here in the club to fight to be in sixth or seventh place. I am here to try to win, to compete. I believe if we change our mind we can achieve big things.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also asked the fans to keep the faith with Ralf Rangnick as he has barely been at the club for a month and has already made more than a few changes. Yet, Ronaldo added that the German needs time and believes that he will turn things around for them.

“He arrived here five weeks ago. He changed many things but he needs time to put his ideas through the players and on the pitch. It takes time but I believe that he is going to do a good job. We know we don’t play the best football, as we should do, but we have many games to improve. Since he arrived I think in some points we are better, but he needs time,” he added.
