The 2nd day of the Pro Kabaddi League season 8 was another ‘triple panga’ day as 6 teams played their first match this season and tried to get off to a good start. Let’s have a look at the match results of the day.

Match 4: Gujarat Giants v Pink Panthers (34-27)

Gujarat Giants emerged victorious in the first match they played this season after Left Corner Girish Ernak registered 7 tackle points to his name. Gujarat raider Rakesh Narwal also picked up 7 raid points. 

The game started tightly contested as both teams found it difficult to score the points. Jaipur were 4 points ahead of Gujarat when two strong tackles from Girish and good work by the Giants saw them score 5 straight points. With two players left on the match, Rakesh Narwal inflicted an all out. 

Courtesy of Deshwal’s impeccable raiding Jaipur were able to build a stronger lead. But the Giants stormed back to life and embarked on a 6-2 run to take back the lead and reduce the Pink Panthers down to just two players on the mat. A self-out and a Bhainswal block saw the Giants inflict an All Out and take a 33-27 lead with under a minute left in the contest. Ernak, the star of the show for the Giants, added another tackle point to his tally for good measure, as Gujarat commenced their campaign with a victory.

Match 5: Dabang Delhi KC v Puneri Paltan (41-30)

Naveen Kumar of Dabang Delhi KC carried his form from the last season as he registered his 22nd straight Super 10; handing Puneri Paltan a defeat by 41-30.  All-rounder Vijay chipped in eight points for Delhi, while Nitin Tomar led the Paltan with seven points.

The Paltan finished the half stronger, courtesy of three raid points from Tomar and a couple of strong tackles from their defence, as the teams headed into the break with Delhi leading 22-15. The Naveen Express kept chugging along and added three more points to his tally, reducing the Paltan down to just Rahul Chaudhari on the mat. Delhi’s defence pinned the Showman down to inflict a third All-Out on the Paltan and take a 37-26 lead.

Naveen added a couple of more points to his tally before the clock ran out, confirming a winning start to Delhi’s campaign.

Match 6: Haryana Steelers v Patna Pirates (39-42)

In a closely fought contest between two strong teams, Patna PIrates’ Monu Goyat was the star as he led Patna Pirates to a 3 point victory against Haryana Steelers. A 15-point display from Monu Goyat and a couple of clutch raids from Sachin in the dying moments led Patna Pirates to a thrilling 42-39 win over the Haryana Steelers. Rohit Gulia finished with a Super 10, while Surender Nada picked up a High 5 for the Steelers.

Early in the second half, Goyat quickly turned the tide of the contest with some impeccable raiding. The veteran added four points to his team’s tally and left the Steelers with just one player on the mat. The Pirates’ defence pinned the raider down to inflict an All Out and take a one-point lead.

Goyat then added three more points to his tally, first with a stellar ankle hold on Kandola and then a two-point raid immediately after, which completed his Super 10, to help the Pirates take a six-point lead.

A crucial tackle from the Pirates’ defence helped their side take a two-point lead. With under 30 seconds left, Gulia earned a point for his side and left just enough time on the clock for one last raid. Playing a high line with just three on the mat, the Steelers had to pin down Sachin to win the game. But the raider escaped with two touchpoints to win the game for the Pirates.
