Let’s have a look at how the 3 matches panned out:

1. Bengaluru Bulls v U Mumba (30-46)

U Mumba’s raider Abishek Singh completed a Super 10 in this match and went on to score 19 points. Abhishek powered U Mumba to a 46-30 win against Bengaluru Bulls in the opening match of the Pro Kabaddi League season 8.

Ranjit and Sehrawat helped the Bulls mount a comeback, as they combined to reduce U Mumba down to just three men on the mat. In a Do-or-die raid, Ranjit went in, hoping to get his side closer to inflicting an All Out.

But skipper Fazel Atrachali, who had a quiet game up until that point, overpowered Ranjit to add two points to his and U Mumba’s tally. In the subsequent raid, V Ajith Kumar delivered the final blow with a Super Raid.

Top Performers of the match:

  • Best Raider – Abhishek Singh (U Mumba) 19 raid points.
  • Best Defender – Harendra Kumar (U Mumba) 4 tackle points.

2. Telugu Titans v Tamil Thalaivas (40-40)

An edge-of-the-seat thriller southern derby ended in a 40-40 tie in the second match of the Pro Kabaddi League season 8. Siddhart Sirish Desai carried his side Telegu Titans and scored 11 points.

Manjeet was the star for Tamil Thalaivas as he scored 12 points. In the second half, the Thalaivas were leading the Titans and continued to build their lead, as their defence stifled the Siddharth Desai and co. and helped their side build a nine-point lead.

However, a couple of spectacular raids from the Titans, including a Super Raid from Desai, yielded five points and turned the game on its head. The Titans’ 10-point blitz saw them take a two-point lead with just under two minutes left in the game.

The Thalaivas responded to this surprising setback by scoring three straight points to take a one-point lead, but the Titans’ defence came through in the final raid of the game, pinning down Manjeet in a do-or-die situation to help their side earn a draw.

Top Performers of the match:

  • Best Raider – Manjeet (Tamil Thalaivas) 12 Raid points
  • Best Defender – Sandeep Kandola (Telegu Titans) 5 Raid points.

3. Bengal Warriors v UP Yoddha (38-33)

The third match was won by the defending champions Bengal Warriors after they defeated Pardeep Narwal’s UP Yoddha by 38-33. Mohammad Nabibakhsh was the star for Bengal Warriors as he picked up 8 raid points and three tackle points to register the win.

Nabibakhsh executed a Super Raid which built a huge lead for the Bengal Warriors. U.P. weren’t about to just down their tools, and they brought the score back to within three, but Sukesh Hegde’s Super Raid followed by some stellar work from the Warriors’ defence helped them inflict an All Out and build an eight-point just past the midway point of the second half.

Raiders Rohit Tomar and Surender Gill tried their best to bring their team back into the contest, but Hegde and Nabibakhsh continued to make an impact on offence and defence, respectively, to maintain the Warriors’ advantage.

Despite U.P.’s best efforts late in the game, the Warriors continued to do just enough to stay ahead and eventually won their season opener by five points.

Top Performers of the match:

  • Best Raider – Mohammad Nabibakhsh (Bengal Warriors), Pardeep Narwal (UP Yoddha) 8 Raid Points
  • Best Defender – Mohammad Nabibakhsh (Bengal Warriors), Ashu Gill (UP Yoddha) 3 Tackle Points.
