ISL Preview: Chennaiyin vs ATK Mohun Bagan

Chennaiyin FC coach Csaba Laszlo faces a unique quandary as he prepares his team to take on ATK Mohun Bagan in the Indian Super League at the GMC Stadium, in Bambolim, Goa on Tuesday.

Antonio Habas’ men will be heading into the match after a good break of 10 days and they would enjoy fresh legs over their opponents from Chennai who looked profligate to settle for a 2-2 draw against struggling SC East Bengal in their last match. A win for ATK Mohun Bagan will take the Kolkata-based club to the top of the points table ahead of the New Year.

Chennaiyin will have to be on their toes right till the final whistle for ATKMB have developed a knack for scoring late winners. They have scored in the last fifteen minutes of the match four times already. That trend may have to do with how ATKMB coach Antonio Lopez Habas drills his team to react to situations as they evolve. “You can prepare your team for one thing and after that, the opponent can do something differently,” he said. “The more important thing is that you have your ideas very very clear. Then you can adapt to your opponent.”

Chennaiyin FC has faced erstwhile ATK FC 15 times in the ISL which also include the last season’s final and the semifinal clashes in 2015.

The Hungarian tactician will be drilling down the importance of defending better from set-pieces against an organized ATKMB outfit, after having conceded two soft goals from corners against SCEB.
