Lionel Messi paid tribute to Diego Maradona by stripping off his Barcelona top to reveal the Argentina great’s shirt after he scored the final goal of a 4-0 rout of Osasuna on Sunday.

Messi celebrated his powerful strike from outside the box to cap the comfortable victory by taking off Barcelona’s blue-and-burgundy to bare the red-and-black of Maradona’s shirt from his stint at Newell’s Old Boys. Messi then blew a kiss with both hands to the sky as he looked up.

There was a touching tribute to Maradona at the Nou Camp before the match, with a minute’s silence, his famous no. 10 shirt, and the big screen used to remember the icon.

Barcelona returned to winning ways in La Liga in impressive fashion thanks to a dominant, well-deserved 4-0 victory over Osasuna at Camp Nou. Barça attacked from the start and were in control for the entire match, providing a lot of entertainment and some beautiful goals in the process.

Despite Osasuna packing their defence in their first half, Messi remained undaunted, dribbling away from the kicks of his markers and dictating play with some terrific passes to Antoine Griezmann and Jordi Alba. He was at the heart of all four Barcelona goals, but a strike from his own foot made the occasion all the sweeter.

During the match Messi tried to recreate the infamous ‘Hand of God as he feinted his hand towards the ball as it crossed the line for Martin Braithwaite’s opener, almost mirroring the iconic goal scored by Maradona to knock England out of the 1986 World Cup.

Griezmann: “We didn’t know what Messi had prepared to honor Maradona, It was such a beautiful surprise.”
