Kieron Pollard IPL History – The fiery pinch hitter of IPL.

West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2010 with Mumbai Indians (MI), where he was bought for Rs 5.40 crore after an aggressive bidding war. In his inaugural season, he started at a mediocre pace and managed to score only 273 runs in 14 matches but his innings against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), where he smashed 45 runs in just 13 balls, earned him the Man of the Match award.

He continued his fiery batting performance in the semi-final of the season and played a knock of 33 runs in 13 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the next two years, Pollard couldn’t retain his actual form and his performance deteriorated. He was able to get only 146 and 220 runs in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

Year 2013 came like a changing point in Pollard’s IPL career and he scored a whopping total of 420 runs in 18 matches. This is also his IPL’s highest score till date. He had 3 half-centuries registered to his name and the highest score of 66* in just 27 balls, which he made against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). His performance in the summit clash of the season, where he smashed 60* runs off 32 balls and even scalped one wicket to take MI to their maiden IPL title.

In 2014, MI had their worst IPL start as they lost the first five matches in the UAE leg of the tournament. Pollard’s knock of 78 runs in 48 balls against SRH went in vain as the team had lost the match. When the tournament resumed in India, his innings of 28 runs in 12 balls against Punjab Kings (PBKS), took his side to their first victory of the season. He scored a total of 273 runs in 15 matches.

Year 2015 is also regarded as the best year for Pollard. He began his blistering performance with 70 runs off 48 balls against Rajasthan Royals (RR). This was followed by 64 runs in just 34 balls against CSK. Later on, in the final clash of the season, he smashed 41 runs off 25 balls and took MI to their second IPL title. He scored a total of 419 runs in 16 matches and had 2 half centuries to his name.

Pollard’s memorable 2015 performance was followed by a mediocre run in 2016. He managed to get only 207 runs in the entire season, with only one half-century to his name. In 2017, he came back to his original form and scored 385 runs in 17 matches, with 3 half-centuries in his kitty. His performance was one of key reasons for MI winning the title for the third time.

Ahead of the mega auctions in 2018, Pollard was retained by MI for Rs 5.40 crore. He got to play only 9 matches in that season and scored 133 runs. In 2019, he again failed to give a awestruck performance but some of his memorable knocks of the season are still memorable. He thrashed the SRH bowlers and scored 46* runs in 26 balls to take his side to a defendable total of 136 runs. Later in a clash against PBKS, he took his team to victory when he scored 83 runs in 31 balls. In the final match of the season against CSK, he played an innings of 41* runs off 25 balls. On that day, MI lifted the IPL title for the fourth time.

In 2020, Pollard played his 150th match in IPL and became the only player to represent MI in the number of matches. He scored a total of 268 runs in 16 matches at an average of 53.60. In that year, MI lifted the title for the fifth time and became the most successful team of the tournament. In 2021, he played an extraordinary knock of 87* runs against CSK and took his side to victory. He managed to score 245 runs in 14 matches and had one half-century to his name.

For IPL 2022, he was retained by MI ahead of the mega auctions for Rs 6 crore. Pollard is currently one of the best all-rounders of the world and undoubtedly the best pick of MI. In his entire IPL career, he has scored 3268 runs in 178 matches with 16 centuries to his name. He has scalped a total of 65 wickets.
