The Election Commission’s directive, which required a fresh round of voting and found the first round of polling held on April 19 to be invalid, was followed in making this conclusion.

This decision was made in the wake of violent occurrences and electoral irregularities that occurred during the first round of voting, including shootings, intimidation of voters, and destruction of electronic voting machines. Additionally, there were claims of booth grabbing, particularly in an area where 72% of voters cast ballots in the two Lok Sabha seats of Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur.
