KKR Wins a Close Match Against RCB Just by 1 Run

The game between KKR and RCB ended in a dramatic way by a slim margin of one run to move up to second place in the points table.

In an intense IPL match played at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, the Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by a small margin of just one run. Bengaluru lost a high score of 222-6 after choosing to field first, owing to captain Shreyas Iyer’s crucial 50 runs and Phil Salt’s fiery 48 off only 14 balls. Cameron Green and Yash Dayal took two wickets each for RCB. The chase was therefore equally amazing as Bengaluru made a determined attempt to reach the target.

The chase went all the way to the finish. It had it all—controversial calls from the umpires on both sides, quick-fire bursts from batters across the batting order, and crucial wickets. Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar, among others, stepped in after a difficult beginning to put the KKR bowlers on the defensive and set up the RCB. However, a pair of outstanding overs from Russell and Narine made sure that they each took two wickets and once again silenced the RCB.

At the very end, Karn Sharma and Dinesh Karthik made every effort to pull them over the edge, but it was too far. All things considered, Bengaluru’s chances of making the playoffs are very low after the loss. On the contrary, KKR is one step closer to securing a spot in the top four.

Starc’s disappointing performance in the IPL proved costly yet again. Starc let up 55 runs in just three overs, but the dismissal of Karn was crucial to KKR’s victory. But before that, as the RCB spinner hit the most expensive player in the league for a maximum three times in four deliveries, the Knight Riders dugout appeared restless.

When Starc bowled to Lockie Ferguson, the next batter, with three to defend off the last ball of the innings, he shifted the angle to around the wicket for the right-hander, pitching the delivery full and slightly outside off. Ferguson cut a deep extra cover drive, and wicketkeeper Phil Salt was able to get hold of the ball and pull the bails just in time to deny Ferguson and Mohammed Siraj of KKR a second run, even as Ramandeep Singh’s throw failed slightly.

With 10 points from seven games, KKR moved up to the second position in the IPL 2024 standings with the victory. After suffering their seventh loss in eight games this season, the RCB, on the other hand, are all but eliminated from the playoffs. They continue to remain positioned at the bottom of the table.
