The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of plotting to hurt Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while he is in detention following his arrest in connection with an excise policy case. A cabinet minister from Delhi named Atishi said that Kejriwal was being refused insulin and home-cooked food while he was incarcerated and that there was a conspiracy to hurt him.

The accusations surfaced when the ED said in court that Kejriwal was trying to get medical bail or hospitalization by regularly ingesting high-sugar meals like sweets and mangoes while having Type 2 diabetes. Jail officials, however, denied these allegations, claiming that Kejriwal’s fasting blood sugar levels never went above 300 and stayed within reasonable bounds.

Atishi accused the administrators of the Tihar jail of refusing Kejriwal’s demands for insulin and impeding efforts to set up a video chat with his physician. She accused him of being the victim of a plot to harm him, claiming that his blood sugar levels had routinely risen above 300 mg/dL because he was not receiving insulin.

Officials from the Tihar jail responded by rejecting Atishi’s allegations and reiterating that Kejriwal had received medicine and home-cooked food in compliance with court rules. They said that two doctors were keeping an eye on his health on the jail grounds.

Atishi went on to refute the ED’s claims about Kejriwal’s diet, saying that he was allowed to drink tea and have sweets manufactured with “erythritol,” the sweetener that his doctors had recommended. She highlighted Kejriwal’s ongoing struggle with diabetes, exposing that he needed 54 units of insulin daily to manage his condition.

In addition, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena of Delhi conveyed his worries regarding the accusations and instructed the Director General (DG) of Prisons to provide a thorough report in a day. He emphasised that there would be no tolerance for any carelessness with regard to Kejriwal’s health.

Following allegations made by the ED at a court hearing about Kejriwal’s eating habits, the judge asked Tihar jail authorities to provide a report, which included Kejriwal’s food chart. In relation to the Delhi Excise Policy case, the ED detained the Delhi Chief Minister on March 21. He is currently being held in judicial custody.

In light of the growing controversy surrounding Kejriwal’s health, the Delhi LG has ordered a probe to determine the accuracy of the AAP’s claims and to protect the welfare of the Chief Minister while he is in prison.

In the midst of political unrest and court cases, Kejriwal’s health continues to be a major concern, and those involved are keeping a tight eye on developments to ensure that he is safe from the harsh conditions of prison.
