Musheer Khan becomes youngest Mumbai batter to hit Ranji Trophy final hundred, breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record

“At just 19 years and 14 days old, Musheer Khan smashes records like a seasoned pro! Surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, he becomes the youngest Mumbai batter to score a century in the Ranji Trophy Final!

Musheer Khan on Tuesday bashed a century in 255 balls at the Wankhede Stadium against Vidarbha to become the youngest Mumbai batter to record a century in the Ranji Trophy since Sachin Tendulkar.

After taking a 119-run lead in the first innings, Mumbai started batting again on day 2. Musheer and Ajinkya Rahane faced some early trouble as openers Prithvi Shaw and Bhupen Lelwani got out quickly. However, Musheer and Ajinkya managed to reach their half-centuries by the end of the day.

Continuing on day 3, Musheer, batting at number 3, partnered with Shreyas Iyer after Rahane’s dismissal at 73 runs. Musheer reached his second First-class century in just three matches by the 90th over. In the quarterfinal match against Baroda, Musheer, who is the younger brother of India’s Sarfaraz Khan, converted his first-ever century into a double century. This accomplishment made him the second youngest Mumbai batsman to achieve this milestone, following Wasim Jaffer.

Breaking Records

At just 19 years and 14 days old, Musheer has achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Rusi Modi as the youngest Mumbai batsman to score a century in the Ranji final. Interestingly, nearly a month before his 22nd birthday, Sachin Tendulkar had displayed his prowess by scoring twin hundreds in the 1994-95 season final against Punjab, leading his team to victory once again. Notably, Tendulkar himself was present in the stands at the Wankhede stadium during Musheer’s exceptional performance.

Mumbai holds the record for the most Ranji Trophy titles, having won 41 times out of 47 finals played. They are close to winning another championship in their 48th final appearance. On the other hand, Vidarbha is competing in their third Ranji final, having secured victories in consecutive seasons between 2017 and 2019.

The Khan family has experienced significant success in recent months. Sarfaraz earned his first Test cap, while Musheer proudly represented India in the Under-19 World Cup. Musheer notably emerged as India’s second-highest run-scorer in the 2024 U-19 World Cup in South Africa, accumulating 360 runs with an impressive average of 60.00.
