The Delhi High Court is scheduled to convene today at 10:30 a.m. to address Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s objections regarding his recent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). This legal proceeding follows his detention last week in connection with a money laundering case linked to Delhi’s former excise policy. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma will preside over the proceedings, responding to a petition filed on April 23, just two days after Kejriwal’s arrest.
Arvind Kejriwal’s legal journey began with an initial plea to the Supreme Court seeking relief post his arrest, which was subsequently withdrawn. Senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, articulated their strategy, emphasizing plans to contest the remand proceedings in the trial court before initiating a fresh petition in the Supreme Court. The trial court, situated at Rouse Avenue, had earlier ordered his remand for a week.
The genesis of the money laundering case pursued by the Enforcement Directorate traces back to a 2022 Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) complaint. This complaint, based on allegations of irregularities in the liquor policy, implicated senior AAP leaders in purportedly creating policy loopholes to benefit select licensees.
