Erling Haaland should give it a shot with Borussia Dortmund, asserts Jurgen Klinsmann

Bayern legend Jurgen Klinsmann has admitted that Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland should remain at the German club as there is no guarantee that the Norwegian will attain the success he has had outside the Signal Iduna Park. The forward has been heavily linked with a move away from Dortmund.

Erling Haaland signed for Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in the winter transfer window of 2020 for a transfer fee of €20 million and since then the Norwegian striker has gone on to establish himself as one of the best strikers in European football. The 21-year-old has scored 82 goals and provided 23 assists in 85 appearances for the club across all competitions. Haaland was also instrumental for the club as they claimed DFB-Pokal glory last season.

The Norwegian’s prolific scoring form has alerted a host of European clubs that are interested in signing the 21-year-old and a bidding war could be ignited due to an alleged £75 million release clause that activates in the summer. Manchester City and Real Madrid are considered the frontrunners for recruiting Haaland in what will be one of the biggest transfer sagas in the upcoming summer. That former German star Jurgen Klinsmann disagrees with the notion that the Norwegian should move onto greener pastures to further his career.

“You have the chance with Dortmund to challenge Bayern Munich and you’re a big part of it. He’s a big, big piece at Borussia Dortmund. You can keep on giving it a shot with Borussia Dortmund. If you decide to go somewhere else, which is understandable but if he decides, there’s no guarantee that wherever you go that you’re going to win those titles right away,” Klinsmann told GOAL.

“You see what happens in Spain right now. If you talk about Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico, there’s always a question mark about who makes the run at the end of the day. Even in England now, if he has a choice between the top four in England, there’s no guarantee that you make the right choice and you win the Premier League right away there,” he added.
