Not Going To Manage Any Other Options Before My Job At Leeds Is Done, Proclaims Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that while he would be open to signing a new contract with the club, he would prefer that waits until the end of the season. The Peacocks’ currently sit twelfth on the Premier League table with them ten points above the relegation zone.

With Marcelo Bielsa entering the final six months of his current contract with Leeds United, it has seen many fans concerned about the Argentine’s future at the club. The 65-year-old is notorious for not spending too long at clubs during his managerial tenure so far with this his second-longest spell behind Bielsa’s spell with Chile and longest club spell. But having signed only a one year contract at the start of the season, the concern is that the Argentine doesn’t want to stay beyond that.

That is despite owner Andrea Radrizzani making it clear that he believes the future of the club lies with Marcelo Bielsa staying in charge despite the reports. But the Argentine refuted the rumours and indicated that any contract talks will take place at the end of the season unless Leeds want him to discuss it before that. He further added that it’s useful to have the judgement of the final six months before making a decision.

“If the club needs an answer before the end of the season, I will respond before the end of the season. I am not going to manage any other options until my job here at Leeds is done. The first thing I want to highlight, because what it seems like is that the president is offering me an extension and I am delaying it. It could be interpreted as the club having more of a desire for me to stay than I do and that’s not the case,” Bielsa said, reported BBC.

“The second thing is that the decision to work in a club for another year is so important that you must have a clear security. When you have a third of the season left to play, perhaps in this period there will be things that happen that will alter the judgement that is useful to have in mind. That is my reasoning. So I go to what you ask me.”

“But if this happens I will take the time to tell them that they should consider what happens in the last part of the season. In this case it’s possible that they could say to me ‘ok, we’ll wait until the end of the season’, or they may say to me ‘no, we need to resolve this before the end of the season. If they need a response prior to the end of the season then I will give one,” he added.
