It’s Over For Us In Premier League But Our Target Is Winning Champions League, Admits Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane believes that Liverpool’s chances of retaining their Premier League title is over but added that the Reds are now targeting the Champions League. The Anfield side walked into the season as reigning Champions but have slipped well behind the title race over the last few months.

After just one loss in their opening seventeen league games, Liverpool have struggled in their last eight games which have seen them fall well off the pack chasing after the title. The Reds have won just two games out of their last eleven league matches played, a run that includes four consecutive losses. That has shocked many fans and critics alike with Liverpool now a mammoth 19 points off the first-placed Manchester City.

It has seen many claiming that Liverpool are now no longer in the title race with Manchester United and Leicester City the only two sides capable of catching up to Pep Guardiola’s team. Sadio Mane admitted that same when he revealed that it’s over in the Premier League for the Reds but added that Liverpool’s targets have been to win every trophy this season. That includes the Champions League and the forward revealed that the Reds are chasing after it now.

“First of all, before the end of the season I think, not only me, but every single player in the squad has targets. It’s the same for the club. Our target from the beginning was [winning] the Champions League, the Premier League and also cup games,” Mane said in an interview with ESPN Brazil.

“And now, I can say it’s over for the Premier League … it’s too much. In our head, our self-belief, it’s always ‘never give up’, and we won’t give up, but for sure, Manchester [City] are a good team and they’re flying.”
